Don’t let my picture from the 100-year flood of Feb 26th, 2018 fool you. Or for that matter, the few remaining slushy snowfalls that are still inevitable (as of this writing on Feb 28th, when the waters have already receded). The fact is, bikers love Kalamazoo! And The Kalamazoo House is the perfect place to combine your cycling with evening entertainment, great breweries, outstanding music and theatre, and access to miles and miles of great bike trails. The Kalamazoo House can even offer you safe, indoor storage of bikes overnight.
Kalamazoo is at the crossroads of three great trails: you can ride from our inn to South Haven to the west, east along the Kalamazoo River to Galesburg, or north along the river and through the amazing Kalamazoo Nature Center (and soon that segment will continue onward toward Grand Rapids). The portions near Kalamazoo are know as the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, and even the route through the city is mostly off streets and now well marked. The 35-mile trip west to South Haven is paved near downtown and for the first several miles west, then is crushed limestone that is packed and very rideable. The downtown, east, and north sections are all paved and glorious, and offer distinct types of riding, including the northern branch which is highly scenic, hilly at times, and often far away from roads.
So make plans now to grab your bikes and enjoy an authentic Kalamazoo experience at The Kalamazoo House Bed and Breakfast this spring, summer, or fall. And if you’re feeling further adventurous, maybe you’ll want to add on our exclusive Urban Kayak Adventure. Think spring and we’ll see you soon!
